Cougars Take 3rd Place
In MTC Tournament

The Cougars' twelve game winning streak came to a screaching halt in the semifinals of the MTC Tournament on Thursday night when they lost to Waltonville 61-57, but they rebounded to take third place honors by blasting Odin 58-41 on Saturday afternoon.

Against Waltonville, the Cougars trailed by one at the half, but forged ahead by seven at the end of three when Tanner Bushue scorched the nets for 14 points.

Seemingly in control at that point, the Cougars allowed the Spartans to make a run of their own as they outscored them by 11 in the final period to hold on for the win.

Bushue led all scorers with 30 points while teammate Isaac Grapperhaus contributed 20. On a side note, Bushue's final basket of the game pushed him to exactly 1000 career points. By doing so, he joins Grapperhaus, who accomplished the task earlier in the season, on the list of high profile scorers in all of South Central history.

In the third place game against Odin, the Cougars were looking to avenge a defeat to the hands of the Eagles in their first game of the season and they did just that in convincing fashion.

Because of a leg injury, Odin played without their junior scoring sensation Tyler Parrish and they could never get anything going offensively against the Cougars.

The game was never really close as the Cougars raced out to a double-digit lead at halftime and were ahead by over 20 points after three periods of play.

Although Bushue and Grapperhaus did not play in the fourth quarter, they still led the Cougar offense with 21 and 17 points respectively.

Both players were also selected to the all-tournament team along with fourteen other players who participated in tournament action.

Up next for the Cougars is a home date next Friday with the Dieterich Movin' Maroons followed by a road trip to Nokomis on Saturday.
