Cougars Thump Altamont
The Cougars
scored seven runs in their first two at bats and never looked back on their way to a 14-3 victory over the Altamont Indians
on Monday afternoon at Lions Field.
Tyler Burns and Matt Hicks got things going in a hurry as they led off the game with
back-to-back singles. After they each stole a base, Brian Wodtka plated the first run when his grounder to short scored Burns
from third. After a pop up on the infield, Nick Jones drove home Hicks with a single to center.
The Cougars scored five times in the second on a pair of walks, an error, and RBI
singles by Burns, Wodtka, and Spencer Patton.
After Altamont scored twice in the 2nd, the Cougars would go on to score single tallies
in the 3rd, 5th, and 6th innings, highlighted by a towering solo home run to left off the bat of Trey Garrett.
With the Cougars now leading 10-3, the Indians picked up an unearned run in the 6th.
But, the Cougars still weren't done as they pushed across four more runs in the 7th. Consecutive singles by Louis Daugherty,
Brock Adams, and Blake Lane(1 RBI) were followed by an RBI double by James Gile and Burns' fourth hit of the day.
Garrett worked the first four innings on the mound to pick up his first win of the
season, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Patton pitched the final three, giving up 1 run on 2 hits, 2
walks, and 6 strikeouts.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday when they host the Comets of Stewardson-Strasburg
at 4:30.
