Cougars Up Record to 10-1
With Weekend Sweep
The Cougars used a 12-2 six-inning victory over the Clay City Wolves on Friday afternoon to remain undefeated
at 3-0 in the confernce and swept a doubleheader from Putnam County on Saturday by scores of 11-1 and 6-2 to up their
overall record to 10-1.
At Clay City, Miles Yates pitched six strong innings and cracked a two-run homer to lead the Cougars
to victory.
He allowed six hits and two earned runs, while striking out eight and walking one in the complete game performance.
Nathan Lotz also went deep with a two-run bomb in the sixth and Spencer Patton, Trey Garrett, and Tyler Mulvany
all had multiple hit games in the thirteen-hit attack.
On Saturday, game one starter Spencer Patton notched his second win of the season, allowing two runs on four
hits, two walks, and six strikeouts.
After a sluggish first time through the batting order, the Cougars errupted for nine runs in the third and
fourth innings, highlighted by two singles and four RBI's from Trey Garrett and a three-run homer from Nathan Lotz.
Patton, Garrett, Lotz, Nick Simmons, and Tyler Mulvany all had multiple hits to lead the offense.
In game two, Trey Garrett upped his record to 4-1 with the third complete game performance of the weekend.
He allowed two runs on four hits, four walks, and seven strikeouts.
Nick Simmons gave the Cougars an early lead with a two-out bases-loaded double that cleared the bases
for three RBI's.
Patton drove another run home in the 2nd with an RBI double and after leaving the bases loaded in the fourth
and fifth, the Cougar offense pushed across its final two runs in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Miles Yates rapped three singles and the Cougars took advantage of twelve walks from two Putnam County pitchers
to fuel their attack.
The Cougars are back in action again next Tuesday night when they host the Odin Eagles in a key conference
matchup at 7:00 P.M.
