Cougars Run Winning Streak to
Seven With Trio of Wins
The Cougars finished off a busy week of six games in five days by downing the Newton Eagles on Thursday
and sweeping a pair of games on Saturday over Rochester and Neoga.
On Thursday, Nick Simmons pitched seven strong innings and picked up his third win of the season, and the
Cougar offense exploded for seven runs late in the game to come from behind and defeat Newton by a score of 9-4.
With the Cougars trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth, their bats finally came to life and with the help
of two Eagle errors, put up seven runs to blow the game open.
The big blows in the inning were a two-run double from Nathan Lotz and a solo home run from Chad King.
Simmons scattered 11 hits, struck out 6, and walked only 2 in his complete-game performance.
In Saturday's game one, Spencer Patton recorded his fifth win of the year and blasted two home runs to lead
the Cougars in an 8-4 victory over the Rochester Rockets.
Patton struggled with his control for most of the game, walking 7 Rochester batters, but allowed only 5 hits
and struck out 10 in his seven innings of work.
At the plate, he scorched the Rocket pitchers for a pair of 2-run homers and a single and totaled 4 RBI's
for the game.
Miles Yates added two singles and an RBI and Louis Daugherty connected for a solo home run in the fifth to
help pace the offense.
In the day's second game, Wade Crain pitched five solid innings to get his second win of the season and Patton
belted two more home runs in a 13-9 pasting of the Neoga Indians.
Patton was 4-5 with solo homers in the first and fifth innings and later added a two-run double
in the sixth to complete a 7-9, four homer, 8 RBI day.

lead the way.
