Cougars Defeat Stew-Stras
and Mulberry Grove

The Cougars rebounded after a tough weekend to pummel Mulberry Grove 16-6 on Monday and Stew-Stras 10-5 on Tuesday.

At Mulberry Grove, starting pitcher Will Crain scattered 13 hits to pick-up the first varsity win of his career and the Cougar offense exploded for 16 runs on 16 hits to pound the Aces by the ten-run rule.

Crain allowed 12 hits and all six runs in the first three innings, but settled down to shutout the Aces the rest of the way, striking out the last three batters he faced to close out the game.

Offensively, the day belonged to designated hitter James Gile as he blasted a double, a triple, and a 2-run homer to lead the way. Robert Slater also joined in on the fun with a 3-run triple, a 2-run homer, and 5 RBI's.

Blake Lane and Wade Crain also contributed in a big way with three hits apiece.

On Tuesday, the Cougars used the long ball again as Spencer Patton went deep twice when he clouted a 3-run homer in the third and 2-run shot in the sixth.

He also picked-up the win on the mound in relief of starting pitcher Nick Simmons. With the score tied at four and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th, he entered the game and recorded a strikeout to end the threat. He went on to finish the game to notch his fourth win of the season.

Senior Tyler Mulvany also had a big day at the plate as he banged out four hits and two RBI's.

The Cougars are back in action again on Wednesday when they host the Salem Wildcats at 4:30 PM.
