Cougars Remain Perfect
Through Week One

After winning their first two games of the season on Monday and Tuesday, the Cougars concluded a successful first week by winning three more games with wins over Patoka, Stew-Stras, and Grayville.

On Wednesday, the Cougars hosted the Patoka Warriors and came out on top by a score of 8-4.

Sophomore Derek Harmeier, pitching in his first varsity game, picked up the win by going the first five innings and Ian King notched the save with two innings of scoreless relief.

Offensively, the Cougars were paced by Tanner Bushue's three-run homer and Cole Armstrong's two-run triple.

On Thursday, they traveled to Stew-Stras and came from behind twice to edge the Comets by a score of 4-3.

Dylan Sill got credit for the win by pitching five innings, allowing all three runs on six hits, two walks, and no strikeouts. Tanner Bushue was awarded the save when he came on in relief of King with two outs in the sixth and proceeded to strikeout four straight batters to close things out.

Sill and Isaac Grapperhaus both homered to lead the offense.

On Friday, the Cougars made the long trip to Grayville to play the Bison in another conference matchup and rolled to an amazing 25-2 victory to up their MTC record to 3-0.

Ryan Gesell ran his pitching record to 2-0 with four strong innings of work and the offense racked up nineteen hits in the five-inning short-game affair.

Gesell also led the offense with four base hits and three RBI's. Tanner Bushue cracked two home runs, one a grand slam, and Shane Donoho came off the bench to add a single and a three-run homer to aid the cause.

Justin Armstrong had a big day at the plate as well as he rapped out two singles, two doubles, and drove in five runs.

The Cougars are back in action again next Tuesday when they host the Dieterich Movin' Maroons at 7:00 PM.
