Shane popped up to the catcher here, but he had two doubles to help pace the offense.

Cougars Pop Sandoval 13-4
In First Round Game

The Cougars advanced to the semifinals of the MTC Tournament with a 13-4 victory over visiting Sandoval on Wednesday night.

They jumped on their guests early by scoring five runs in their first at-bat, but after some shoddy play in the middle innings, found themselves up by only one after the 4th.

Starter Derek Harmeier surrendered all four runs, but the defense committed three errors in the third inning to account for two of them being unearned. Another run scored in the fourth on three straight hits before Tanner Bushue was called on to put out the fire.

But after back-to-back walks to plate another run, he finally settled down to record a strikeout and fly ball to left to end the bases-loaded threat.

The Cougar offense then went back to work by scoring seven times in the 5th to put the game out of reach. Highlights of the inning were RBI singles from Ryan Gesell and Kyle Monical and a three-run double off the bat of Bushue.

Ian King picked up his third save of the season by pitching a scoreless final three innings.

Up next is a semifinal game vs Noble at 4:15 PM. All remaining tournment games will be played at Louisville's City Park.
