Cougars Split Pair of Games,
Finish 2nd in RBI Tourney
Wet grounds at Benton's city ballpark forced their own RBI Tournament to be moved to Kinmundy and the Rangers
came out on top by winning the tiebreaker as all three teams involved finished with a 1-1 record.
Tournament rules state that in case of a tie, the team that allows the fewest total runs in their two games
will be declared the champion.
In game one, the Cougars fell to Benton 7-2 as the Rangers cranked out 10 timely hits and drew 11
walks to pace their offense.
Despite those stats, the Cougar defense missed several opportunities in the field to to keep the game closer,
but couldn't seem to make the routine play when needed.
Offensively, they had there chances too, but couldn't get a big hit when they needed one as they stranded
nine runners on the bases for the game.
In a wild game two, East Central rallied for 3 runs in the top of 7th to take a one run lead and then made
it stand up with three quick outs in the bottom of the frame to squeek out an 11-10 win over Benton.
In game three, the Cougar bats came to life as they pounded out 16 hits in the 18-8 victory over East Central.
Isaac Grapperhaus led the charge with an RBI double and a grand slam home run
to account for his 5 RBI's.
Cole Armstrong banged out a single and two doubles while Tyler Gillett, Ryan Gesell, Tanner Bushue, Ian King,
and Kyle Monical all contributed two hits apiece.
Ian King ran his record to 2-0 as he pitched all seven innings allowing 8 runs, two of them earned, on 10
hits, 5 strikeouts, and 1 walk.
