Because of wet field conditions, the Cougars had to make the trip to Effingham, but it was worth the bus ride as they knocked off the Apollo Conference-leading Hearts 2-0 on Wednesday.

 

Tanner Bushue had a big game on the hill as he went the distance to pick up his 3rd win of the season allowing no runs on 2 hits, 1 walk, and 15 strikeouts.

 

Isaac Grapperhaus led the offense with a single and a double and scored one of the Cougar runs when he scored from third on a wild pitch.

 

Justin Armstrong had the only other hit, but it was a big one when he doubled home Kyle Monical in the sixth after he reached on a walk.

 

Weather permitting, the Cougars are back in action on Friday when they play DuQuoin in the first round of the Centralia Tournament. Game time is 4:30 PM.
