The Cougars made it four wins in a row
when they blasted a pair of opponents by downing the Stew-Stras Comets 12-4 and the Brownstown Bombers 17-3 to finish off
the week.
On Wednesday, the Cougars got a stellar pitching performance from Derek Harmeier
and the offense cranked out 13 hits in the win over the unbeaten Comets.
Harmeier went the distance on 101 pitches and after a rocky first inning, settled
down to pick-up his first win of the season. For the game, he allowed 4 earned runs, three of them coming in the 1st, on 10
hits, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts.
Shane Donoho led the way offensively as he cranked out four hits, one a long
drive to straight away center for a 2-run homer in the 7th.
Kyle Monical was right behind with 3 hits and 4 RBI's while Cole Armstrong
and Colby Bushue each added two safeties apiece.
On Thursday, the Cougars traveled to Browntown and the rout was on when they
exploded for all of their 17 runs in their first three at-bats.
Dylan Sill got things going in the 1st when he launched his second homer
of the season for a 3-run shot over the fence in right.
Not to be outdone, Tyler Gillett added a longball of his own to close out the
scoring in the 3rd when he belted a grand slam to left. They both finished with 5 RBI's on the day.
Armstrong (double, 1 RBI) and Donoho (triple, 3 RBI's) both had two-hit days
to help lead the charge.
Sill was the starting and winning pitcher tossing 4 complete innings, allowing
2 runs on 1 hit, 4 walks, and 9 strikeouts. Freshman Shawn Meyer closed it out allowing 1 unearned run in the fifth.
The Cougars return to action on Monday when they hit the road again for a date
with the Flora Wolves at 4:30 PM.
