Cougars Bomb Brownstown
To Advance in Regional Play

The Cougars have found their way into another regional championship game by virtue of an 11-1 victory over the Brownstown Bombers in the North Clay Regional held at Louisville on Wednesday.

Ryan Gesell picked up the win from the mound and four Cougar hitters rapped out two hits apiece to lead the way.

Gesell ran his record over the .500 mark to

6-5, pitching all five innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits, 3 walks, and 7 strikeouts.

He managed to pitch through early inning jambs as the Cougars committed all three of their errors in the first three innings when the Bombers stranded five baserunners.

Offensively, the Cougars were led by Dylan Sill and Gesell with two hits and two RBI's each.

Sill's two RBI's came in the four-run third when he put the Cougars on the board with a two-run single past the bag at first. Gesell followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-1.

Five more runs would cross the plate in the fourth highlighted by Gesell's second RBI single, a bases-loaded walk to Shane Donoho, and an RBI single from Reid Drewes.

The Cougars closed out the scoring and the game in the bottom of the fifth when Kyle Monical led off the inning with his first career home run which landed well beyond the fence in left.

After a pair of walks and a single to load the bases, Colby Bushue lofted a fly ball to right and Tyler Gillett scampered home from third with the winning run.

With the win, the Cougars notched their 20th win of the season and advance into Saturday's championship game with the North Clay Cardinals. Game time is 11:00 AM at Louisville's city park.
