The Cougars opened their 2010 fall campaign
on a positive note when they slipped past the visiting Woodlawn Cardinals 5-3 in MTC play, but dropped a close contest
the next day to the Altamont Indians by a score of 4-3.
On Monday, Derek Harmeier picked up where he left off last spring by pitching
seven strong innings to lead the Cougars past Woodlawn. He allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits, 4 walks, and 11 strikeouts.
Offensively, the Cougars were led by Larry Schoreck and Luke Krajefska with
a pair of singles each. However, Cole Armstrong and Colton Wilkins played a big role in the win as each plalyer drove in a
run in the sixth with the game tied at three all.
On Tuesday, the Cougars wasted a very good pitching performance by Colby Bushue
in the loss to Altamont. He allowed just 4 runs (3 earned) by scattering 8 hits, on 2 walks, and
7 strikeouts.
But the offense couldn't seem to get anything going after scoring a run in
the first and two more in the second. They squandered scoring opportunities in the fifth and sixth before putting the tying
and winning runs into scoring position in the bottom of the seventh. But a groundout and a strikeout ended the contest before
they could cross the plate.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Stew-Stras to
battle the Comets at 4:30 PM.
