The Cougars got a solid pitching performance
from senior right-hander Derek Harmeier, but the defense didn't do it's part, committing seven costly errors in
an 8-4 loss at Teutopolis on Monday afternoon.
Harmeier allowed all 8 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits, 2 walks,and 7 strikeouts,
but the deluge of mistakes cost the Cougars dearly.
One of the errors came in the first when leadoff hitter Derek Thompson reached
on a throwing miscue. He later scored on a two-run double from Bo Blievernicht.
Three more came in the third, all of them throwing errors, when the Shoes
tacked on three more runs.
Solo home runs in the 5th and 6th accounted for the remaining T-Town runs,
but regardless of the stats, Harmeier did his part.
Offensively, the Cougars banged out 8 hits to keep things interesting. Bret
Pitts laced a pair of doubles and drove in a run, while Fischer Tharp added two singles and Cole Armstrong chased a run home
with an RBI double in the 3rd.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday when they host the St. Elmo Eagles
at 4:30 PM.
