The Cougars climbed back above the .500
mark for the season with three straight wins when they defeated St. Elmo, Sandoval, and Neoga to close out the week.
On Thursday, Colby Bushue picked up the win from the mound and the Cougars
banged out nine hits to shutout the visiting St. Elmo Eagles 8-0.
Bushue allowed no runs on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts in six innings of
work and Cole Armstrong pitched a scoreless 7th to slam the door.
Offensively, Bushue was just as good at the plate as he collected a pair of
hits and 1 RBI. Luke Krajefska drove home three runs with a single and a double, and Colton Wilkins rapped a pair of doubles.
On Friday, Krajefska notched his first win of the season by pitching six strong
innings allowing both runs on 5 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Armstrong again pitched a scorless 7th to close it out.
Rudy Hablewitz led the offense with two hits and 1 RBI while Bret
Pitts and Wilkins added two singles apiece to contribute to the cause.
On Saturday, Derek Harmeier continued his mastery from the mound allowing just
a single run in a 9-inning complete game 2-1 win over Neoga in the first game of the North Clay Showcase held at Louisville.
Harmeier scattered six hits, allowing 1 unearned run on no walks and 8 stikeouts
to improve his overall record to 2-3.
The Cougar offense put runners in scoring position throughout the game,
but couldn't get the big hit when they needed it.
Finally, in the bottom of the ninth, Colby Bushue led off the inning with a
double to the left-centerfield gap and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Indians centerfielder.
Fischer Tharp battled the Neoga pitcher to a full count and then bounced a
single through the left side of a drawn-in infield to plate the winning run.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when the battle the visiting Cisne
Lions in a makeup of previously rained out contest at 7:00 PM.
