The Cougars flexed their muscles
with the bats in a 27-3 drubbing of Patoka on Tuesday and then let their pitching do the job on Wednesday when they shutout
Effingham St. Anthony 9-0.
Against Patoka, the Cougars banged out 27 hits in five at-bats as every
player on the roster contributed at least one hit in the offensive onslaught.
Cole Armstong led the way with a pair of home runs, a double, two singles,
and 7 RBI's. Colby Bushue, Fischer Tharp, and Brett Pitts were close behind with three safeties apiece, while Drake Ritter,
Heath Hoffmann, Reid Drewes, Luke Krajefska, and Rudy Hablewitz all chipped in with two each.
Starting pitcher Shawn Meyer picked up the win with 3 scoreless innings of
work and Armstrong finished things up by tossing the final two frames.
On Wednesday, Derek Harmeier notched his third win of season as he baffled
St. Anthony and the Bulldog hitters by pitching a 3-hit, complete-game masterpiece allowing no runs with just 2 walks
and 11 strikeouts.
Colton Wilkins paced the offense with a single and a 3-run double in the sixth
and Heath Hoffmann added a pair of hits and 2 RBI's.
The Cougars return to action on Friday when they travel to Carlyle to battle
the Indians at 4:00 PM.
