Derek Harmeier continued his dominance on the mound leading the Cougars to a 5-2 victory over the host Centralia Orphans in their own round-robin tournament on Friday.

 

Harmeier ran his record to a spotless 7-0 for the season as he stiffled the Orphans on 2 hits, 2 walks, and 10 strikeouts.

 

Both hits came in the third inning when the Orphans scored their only runs. A single, a walk, and another single accounted for the first run, but the second run crossed the plate on a Cougar throwing error.

 

Offensively, the Cougars plated all the runs they would need in their third turn at bat as they tallied four times on four hits.

 

Colby Bushue started the uprising by reaching base on an Orphan fielding error. Luke Krajefska and Cole Armstrong then loaded the bases with back-to-back singles. After an infield pop-up, Bushue scampered home with the first run on a wild pitch.

 

Bret Pitts followed with an RBI single, and after a walk to Heath Hoffmann to load the bases again, Fischer Tharp delivered a two-run single to complete the scoring.

 

The Cougars would add another run in the seventh on a lead-off double from Hoffmann and a throwing error by the catcher on Tharp's sac bunt attempt.

 

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Stew-Stras to battle the Comets at 4:30 PM.
