After a regular season that was frustrating at times in terms of wins and losses, the Cougars got hot at the right time and put together a season-ending run that won't soon be forgotten.

 

They captured yet another Regional championship (SCHS's 11th overall) and reached the sectional title game where they fell to a very good Windsor/Stew-Stras team 3-1.

 

Highlights in the post-season run were many. The Cougars started things off in the Regional semifinal by blasting St. Elmo 12-0 and their all-area pitcher Conner Beasley.

 

Up next was an exhilerating 4-3 win over Altamont in the title game that came down to the very last play. Who could forget "The Catch" made by Rudy Hablewitz to seal the deal. And what about Dealin' Dan Diss who got it done from the mound?

 

In the Sectional semifinal, the Cougars whacked the North Clay Cardinals to the tune of 11-3. They banged out 16 hits on the day and Diss picked up his second post-season win. It was sweet revenge after the Cardinals had beaten them 3 times in the regular season.

 

The excitement continued in the championship game. Sophmore rookie Dylan Peters got his first varsity pitching assignment and he did not disappoint as he shut out the hard-hitting WSS squad the first five innings.

 

Opposing pitcher Christian Vonderheide was equally as tough as held the Cougar bats to just four hits in the 3-1 loss.

 

The senior-led Cougar team was a very special group and deserved the excitement and recognition they got during the post-season run. Good luck to the departing seniors and thanks for the many great memories.
