Sunny skies and
mild temperatures made for the perfect baseball atomosphere and the Cougars put together a solid,
all-around effort, coming away with a 10-1 victory over the Ophans at beautiful Sprehe-Jaycees Park in Centralia.
The Cougars never trailed in this one as they jumped on the scoreboard first, scoring 3 runs in the 2nd on consecutive
singles by Brian Wodtka, Matt Wegener, and Nick Jones, a 2 RBI single by Jeremy Chasteen, and a pass ball by the Orphan
catcher. Jason Shirley launched his fouth home run of the season, a solo shot, in next inning and the Cougars were up 4-0.
After tacking on single tallies
in the 5th and 6th innings, the Cougars erupted for 4 more runs in the seventh, the big blow coming off the bat of Nick Jones
as he connected for a bases-loaded triple.
Jeremy Chasteen picked-up his
fifth win of the year by going the distance on the mound, allowing 7 hits, 4 walks, and striking out 5 Orphan batters.
Offensively, the Cougars banged out 11 hits and were led by Tyler Burns(single,
double), Kevin Wilkins(2 singles, RBI), and Nick Jones(single, triple, 3 RBI).
The Cougars upped their record to 8-4 and return to action again Wednesday
when they travel to Noble to battle the Wildcats in a 4:30 P.M. contest.
