This years version of South Central Baseball will go down in school
history as a team that set many "firsts" and will represent the benchmark that future Cougar squads will shoot for.
Equaling the 2001 fall record, the 2002 Cougars also went undefeated
with a perfect 19-0 record and combined with the 24 wins in the spring, pushed their two-season total over the 40-victory
plateau for the first time ever.
Some of the highlights in the record-setting 43-win total were
winning the fall MTC conference regular-season and tournament championships, placing 6 players on the all-conference team,
and having 7 of the starting 9 players with batting averages over the .400 mark.
The 1st team all-conference members were Jeremy Chasteen(MVP),
Jason Shirley, Kevin Wilkins, Brian Wodtka, and Brock Adams. Nick Jones was selected to the honorable mention squad and Coach
Jones was tabbed as Coach of the Year.
The 2003 spring season was even more memorable. The Cougars
notched their third regional championship in the last four years and brought home their first-ever sectional plaque. Along
with this and their record-setting total of 24 wins, they were also the champions of the Benton tournament and 2nd place finishers
in the inaugural South Central Wooden Bat Tournament.
The season in review would not be complete without mentioning
German Joe and his contribution as team photographer and good friend to all. The many pictures he took were an invaluable
asset to this website, as well as providing many memories to look back at in the years to come. Thanks for everything Joe!!!
The Cougars would also like to thank all the parents and loyal
fans for their support during all the games and fundraising events. Your interest and participation plays a huge part in what
makes Cougar baseball the best that it can be.
Congratulations
Cougars on your
