Cougars Whip Patoka 9-2
The Cougars started
their fall campaign off on the right foot with a 9-2 road victory over the Patoka Warriors.
Although they had a few defensive lapses, a strong pitching performance by a trio
of Cougar hurlers and an offense that exploded for 4 runs in back-to-back innings spelled doom for the Warriors on this day.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, the Cougars' first four runs came courtesy
of singles by Shane Landreth and Tyler Burns, followed by a 3-run homer off the bat of Brian Wodtka. Brock Adams and Nick
Jones then singled and Adams eventually scored on a 6-3 fielder's choice groundout by Miles Yates.
The Cougars scored four more runs in the fourth when they loaded the bases on three
Patoka fielding errors, and after Matt Hicks hit into a 6-2 fielder's choice, Wodtka again cleared the bases with a ringing
double into the left-centerfield gap. Adams promptly doubled into the left field corner to score Louis Daugherty, who was
running for Wodtka.
The Cougars closed out their scoring in the seventh on a Landreth double and an
RBI single by Burns.
Wodtka started and pitched three strong innings and was relieved by Yates in the
fourth, who got credit for the win. Spencer Patton finished things up with a perfect inning of work in the seventh. The trio combined for 6 strikeouts and 3 walks, while allowing only 3 hits.
Wodtka had the hot bat as he doubled twice, homered, and collected 6 RBI's.
Adams, Burns, and Landreth knocked-out two hits apeice to also aid the cause.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday when they host the Comets from Stewardson-Strasburg
at 4:30 P.M. The game was originally scheduled for 7:00, but was moved due to a conflict.
