Garrett Throws a No-No,
Cougars Thrash Eagles
Trey Garrett used his bat to help defeat
Stew-Stras last week, but in Wednesday's home game with St. Elmo he used his arm to propel the Cougars to an impressive
13-0 victory over the Eagles.
Garrett worked 5 hitless innings to record his first no-hitter and the Cougar offense
racked-up 12 hits in the 10-run rule affair.
After Garrett's three strikeouts in the top half of the first, the Cougars went
to work in their half of the inning. Tyler Burns led off the game with a single to left, and after Matt Hicks was hit by a
pitch, Brian Wodtka singled to score Burns from third.
Hicks scored when Brock Adams lifted a sac fly to center and after a single by Nick
Jones, Wodtka scored on a fielder's choice by Garrett.
Garrett recorded four more K's in the next two innings and the Cougar offense went
to work again in the bottom of the third.
With one out, Wodtka shot a double down the rightfield line and Adams followed with
a single. Jones walked to load the bases and Garrett singled to drive in the first run of the inning. Two more runs would
cross the plate on a St. Elmo fielding error and the Cougars led 6-0.
The fourth inning saw seven more Cougar runs cross the plate on 5 hits and two
Eagle errors and the lead ballooned to 13-0.
Garrett completed his "no-no" in the 5th by recording his 9th and 10th strikeout
of the game and the Cougars were the winners of their 3rd game of the young fall season.
Offensively, the Cougars were led by the hot-hitting Wodtka with a pair of singles
and a double. Adams and Jones collected two hits apiece, while Burns, Garrett, Hicks, Louis Daugherty, and Blake Lane all
chipped-in with one safety each.
The Cougars are back in action again on Thursday when the travel to Brownstown to
take on the Bombers at 4:30 P.M.
