Cougar Streak Continues,
Triumph 8-5 over T-Town
The Cougars got another strong pitching performance and the bats came alive as they
topped the visiting Teutopolis Wooden Shoes by a score of 8-5 at Lions Field Wednesday afternoon.
Trey Garrett continued his mastery on the mound as he allowed only 4 hits in shutting
down the always potent T-Town offense. Although he issued 4 walks and 2 hit batsmen, the Cougar defense helped him out and
did its part by making most of the plays when they had to.
Tyler Burns came on relief of Garrett with one out in the 7th to preserve
the win.
Offensively, the Cougars were red-hot on this day. After allowing 1 run in the 1st,
they came roaring right back with two in their half of the inning.
Burns and Matt Hicks each singled to start the frame and Brian Wodtka followed
with an RBI single to plate the first run. Brock Adams rifled another single and the Cougars were up 2-1.
When T-Town countered in the 3rd with a run to tie it, the Cougars went to work
again. This time Wodtka and Adams both reached on back-to-back errors and Spencer Patton singled to load the bases. Garrett
then laced a single to rightfield to drive in two and the lead was now at 4-2.
In the 5th, a walk, a pair of Cougar errors, and a sac fly allowed the Wooden
Shoes to knot the score again, but not be outdone, the Cougars answered again with 4 in the bottom half of the inning.
Adams and Nick Jones started things off with consecutive singles. After another
T-Town error to load the bases, Garrett again singled to score a run and Miles Yates then shot a single over second to score
two more. Tyler Burns would add another single later in the inning to score the final run and the Cougar lead swelled to 8-4.
T-Town escaped the inning with a bases-loaded triple play and Coach Jones was about
to pull his hair out when the final out was recorded.
T-Town scored another run in the 7th, but it was too little too late and the Cougars
held on for their 12th consecutive win.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday when they travel to Cisne to take-on the
Runnin' Lions at 4:30 P.M.
