Brian
"B" picks up his fourth win of the season, allowing 4 hits on 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.

Cougars Score Late To
Defeat Mulberry Grove

The Cougars scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and held on from there to record their 17th win with the 6-1 victory.

The big inning saw them pound out five of their ten hits on the game, three of them RBI doubles and all coming with two outs.

Matt Hicks got things rolling with a lead-off single and a stolen base, and when the catcher's throw ended up in centerfield, Hicks scampered to third. Brian Wodtka followed with a base on balls and Hicks would score the first run when Brock Adams grounded into a fielder's choice.

Trey Garrett reached on another fielder's choice by forcing Adams for the second out, but Nick Jones started the hit parade with an RBI double to right center, scoring pinch-runner James Gile from first.

Shane Landreth then followed with an RBI double of his own and courtesy runner Blake Lane scored when Spencer Patton ripped a single into left.

The final run of the inning came home when ninth-place hitter Louis Daugherty drilled a long double into the leftfield corner.

The Cougar bats were pretty silent until the sixth-inning outburst as they could only muster three hits and one measly run.

They got it in the third when Patton reached on a walk, Daugherty advanced him to third with a perfectly placed bunt on the bunt-and-run, and a groundout off the bat of leadoff hitter Tyler Burns.

Brian Wodtka (4-0) started and worked the first six innings before giving way to Miles Yates in the seventh. Wodtka allowed 4 hits on 3 walks and 6 strikeouts and Yates set them down 1-2-3 to close things out.

The Cougars travel to Stew-Stras on Tuesday to battle the Comets for the third time this season.
