Cougars Cruise to 9-3
Victory Over Indians
Under sunny skies and temps in the mid-60's, the Cougars picked up their second win of the season as they
raced past the visiting Altamont Indians by a score of 9-3.
Miles Yates pitched six strong innings and the Cougar bats unleashed 16 hits to run their record to 2-0 on
the young season.
Yates allowed an earned run in the first on a two-out double and an RBI single, but settled down thereafter,
scattering five hits while striking out six on no walks.
Thanks to a pair of errors by the Cougar defense, the two Indian runs scored in the 6th were both unearned, and
Spencer Patton struck out the side in the 7th to slam the door.
After Altamont took the early 1-0 lead, the Cougars tied it up in their half of the first on back-to-back
singles by Patton and Trey Garrett and a fielding miscue by the Indians.
In the 2nd, the Cougars would take the lead for good when Yates led off the inning with ringing double to
right-center and Patton followed with a homer to left.
They upped the lead to 6-1 after four when Yates and Patton would come through once again with RBI singles
after Tyler Mulvany doubled and Louis Daugherty reached on a strikeout/wild pitch. The third run crossed the plate when
the Indians' leftfielder misplayed Nathan Lotz's sharp liner to left.
The Cougars added an insurance run in the 5th and two more in the 6th to close out their scoring as Daugherty
and James Gile both picked up RBI singles.
Patton and Garrett both collected four hits apiece and Blake Lane added a pair of singles to pace the Cougar
attack.
The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Stewardson-Strasburg to take on the Comets
at 4:30 P.M.
