Cougars Top Greenville &
North Clay, Move to 8-2
The Cougars picked-up two more wins this week with a 4-3 victory at Greenville on Tuesday and a 10-0 shellacking
of North Clay on Wednesday.
At Greenville, starting pitcher Spencer Patton was a big key in this one as he went the distance, allowing
only 2 hits on 15 strikeouts. Altlhough he struggled with his control at times (8 walks and 3 hit batters), he managed to
get himself out of trouble time after time.
Offensively, the Cougars started out with a bang when Wade Crain led of the game with a long solo home run
to left to give them an early 1-0 lead. But, things got very quiet after that as the Cougars continued to get themselves out
by swinging at pitch after pitch out of the strike zone.
When all was said and done, the Cougars could only muster three more hits the rest of the way and were led
by Blake Lane with two singles and an one RBI.
On Wednesday, Tanner Bushue picked-up his third pitching victory of the season with a 1-hit, 11 strikeout
performance and the Cougar offense "dialed deep" with three 2-run homers.
Two of the three home runs came in the first when the Cougars plated four runs on a pair of round-trippers by
Patton and Tyler Mulvany. The third long ball came in the fourth when Robert Slater launched a towering shot over the scoreboard
in left.
The Cougars return to action this Friday when they travel to Casey-Westfield to take-on the Warriors at 4:30
PM.
