The Cougars hosted Dieterich and DuQuoin on Saturday for a three-way double-header and came out on the short end of both of their games as they fell to the Maroons 13-8 in game one and dropped a 13-4 decision to the Indians in game two.

 

Against Dieterich, the Cougars found themselves down early as the Maroons scored four times in their first at-bat on a hit batsmen, two walks, an RBI groundout, and a three-run homer.

 

The Cougars got on the board in the 2nd when Zac Cain scorched and RBI double, but the Maroons played long ball again in the third when they clouted two more homeruns that accounted for all five of their runs to push their lead to 9-1.

 

After each team scored another run in the middle innings, the Cougars scored five runs in the sixth to close the gap to 10-8, but the Maroons added three more in the seventh on a pair of singles, a run-scoring error, and yet another two-run homer.

 

Wade Crain was the starting and losing pitcher in this one as he pitched the first 2 2/3 of an inning before giving way to Lance Schneider.

 

In game two, it was much of the same. DuQuoin blasted the Cougar pitchers for four more home runs, three coming off the bat of Indian rightfielder Ryan Uhe.

 

Tanner Bushue took the loss as he started and pitched the first four innings before Marcus Hicks came on in relief.

 

The Cougars are back in action again on Monday when they host the Altamont Indians at 4:30 PM.
