Cougars Run Out of Daylight
In Game at Stew-Stras
The Cougars accomplished something in their game with Stew-Stras that no other team before them has done and
that was play an opponent to a tie.
Deadlocked at seven runs apiece, the Cougars and Comets had no choice but to "call it even" after ten innings
of play when the umpires declared the game over because of darkness.
The Cougars actually had the game in hand with a 7-4 lead entering the bottom of the seventh, but an error
to lead off the inning followed by a walk, a single, a double, and another error allowed the Comets to knot things up.
Lance Schneider then entered to relieve starting pitcher Tanner Bushue and he shut out the hosts the rest
of the way.
Offensively, the Cougars struggled to get anything going early against the Comets' hard-throwing sophmore
Phil Wetherell, but Wade Crain finally got to him the third when he blasted a solo home run over the fence in left.
Then in the fourth, the Cougars exploded for five runs to take a 6-1 lead. Highlighting the inning were
RBI singles from Zac Cain and Wade Crain and a pair of RBI's on a Will Crain single.
But the Comets hacked into the lead in their half of the fourth when they put three runs on the board with
a single, a hit batsman, and a three-run homer from their leadoff hitter.
The Cougars then tacked on another run in the sixth when Jayme Michel doubled to the gap in left-center and
was driven home by Wade Crain's second RBI single.
After the Comets tied the score in the last half of the seventh, neither team was able to mount any kind of
rally until the game was eventually called at the conclusion of the tenth inning.
The Cougars return to action again on Thursday when they host the Brownstown Bombers at 4:30 PM.
