Cougars Shutout Wilmington
On a very cold and blustery Wednesday afternoon at Lions Field, the Cougars skunked the visiting Wilmington
Wildcats by a score of 6-0.
While Marcus Hicks picked up his second win of the season from the mound, the Cougar bats did just enough
damage at the plate to run their record to 6-2-1.
Hicks battled through the bone-chilling temperatures for a complet-game shutout allowing five hits on three
walks and two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat when Will Crain stole third base and
the Wilmington catcher's throw sailed into left allowing him to scamper home.
In the third, Wade Crain reached on an error to open the frame and after he stole second, Will Crain drove
him home with an RBI double into the rightfield corner.
Three more runners would cross the plate in the fourth. Zac Cain got things started when he doubled over the
centerfielder's head and Jayme Michel followed with a single to put runners at second and third.
When Nick Simmons loaded the bases after he reached on a walk, Shea Burton delivered a two-run
single. Then one out later, Wade Crain pushed the third run across the dish when he rifled a single past short to score
Burton.
The Cougars closed out their scoring in the fifth when Michel ripped his third single of the day and eventually
scored after a Wilmington error and an RBI fielder's choice by Burton.
The Cougars return to action again on Friday when the travel to Carlyle to take on the Indians in a 4:30 PM
contest.
