Cougars Outlast Carlyle 3-1
On another frigid day at the ballpark, the Cougars battled through the wind and cold to defeat the Carlyle
Indians 3-1 for their seventh victory of the season.
Tanner Bushue was the man of the hour as he pitched seven strong innings to pick up his first victory. He
allowed just a single unearned run on three hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts.
Offensively, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead by scoring the game's first run in the first inning.
Leadoff hitter Wade Crain reached when the Indian's catcher mishandled a third strike call that ended up at the backstop.
After a strikeout, Shea Burton reached on a bloop single sending Crain to second. Bushue then helped his own
cause when he scorched a line drive single to right to score Crain.
The Cougars stranded six runners through their next three at-bats before finally busting loose for two more
runs in the fifth.
Zac Cain drew a two-out walk and Jayme Michel followed that up with a screaming liner to right-center
to put runners at second and third. Aaron Robb walked to load the bases and Nick Simmons did the same to plate the first run.
The Cougars reached into their bag of tricks to score the final run as Michel scampered home with what went
down in the books as a stolen base.
The Indians mounted their most serious threat in the sixth when they scored an unearned run on a fielding
error and had runners at second and third with two outs when Bushue induced a groundout to put out the fire.
The Cougars are back in action next Tuesday when they host the Greenville Comets at 4:30 PM.
