Cougars Fall To Centralia 6-5
After falling behind in the first inning, the Cougars fought back to tie things up in the seventh only
to see Centralia plate the game winner with two outs in the bottom half of the frame.
Starting and losing pitcher Marcus Hicks easily recorded the first two outs in that fatefull inning and when
the Cougar defense committed a fielding error, it opened the door for Orphans fifth-place hitter Travis Holtkamp who
promptly delivered an RBI double to the wall in center.
After winning three in a row, Hicks suffered his first loss of the season as he gave up all six
runs (four earned) on seven hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts.
The Cougars actually got on the board first in this one when they scored twice in the first inning on RBI
singles from Zac Cain and Aaron Robb, but the hosts answered with three of their own to make it 3-2.
The Orphans tacked on one more in the fourth before the Cougars closed within one on an RBI single from Nick
Simmons.
The Orphans scored again in the sixth when the Cougar defense botched a double play ball to make it 5-3.
But in the seventh, Jayme Michel pulled the Cougars within one when he blasted a one-out home run to left.
After a walk to Shea Burton and a fielding error by Centralia, Cain knotted the score with his second RBI hit of the day.
With runners now at first and third and the Cougars looking to take the lead, Robb's sharp grounder was
fielded for a double play to end the rally and set the stage for the Orphans' big finish.
The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Noble to battle the Wildcats at 4:15 PM.
