Cougars Split Final Two
Games of Regular Season

The Cougars finished up their 2007 regular season with a 16-4 road loss to the Olney Tigers and a 7-1 victory over the Dieterich Movin' Maroons at Dieterich.

On Wednesday, the Cougars were ambushed by a Tiger team that pounded out 16 hits enroute to the one-sided five-inning defeat.

Marcus Hicks (6-2) suffered just his second loss of the season as he allowed eleven runs on nine hits, three walks, and three strikeouts in 2 2/3 of an inning.

Nick Simmons came on in relief, but didn't fare much better as he gave up five runs on seven hits in his 1 2/3 innings of work.

After taking a brief 1-0 lead after their first at-bat, the Cougars watched as the Tigers racked up sixteen unanswered runs in the first four innings before they finally broke through for three more of their own in the fifth to make it somewhat respectable.

On Friday, the Cougars got some timely hitting and quality pitching performances from Wade Crain and Tanner Bushue to knockoff the Maroons.

Crain pitched four scoreless innings before giving way to Bushue in the fifth and they combined to allow just five hits on one unearned run with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Offensively, the Cougars scored the first two runs of the game in the third when the Crain boys reached on a single and a walk, and after a double steal, Simmons rolled a grounder to second to score one before the second one scored on the same play via a Maroon throwing error.

Then in the fifth, the Cougars struck for five more. Jayme Michel and Wade Crain both reached on one-out singles and Simmons responded again, this time with a two-out double to the right-centerfield gap.

Bushue followed with an RBI single and Lance Schneider then singled ahead of Aaron Robb's two-run double, also to the gap in right-center.

The Cougars conclude the regular season at 22-9 and return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Mt. Carmel to play a regional semifinal game against the winner of Fairfield and Edwards County at 4:30 PM.
