Wood Bat Tourney (Spring 08)

After losing three varsity players this past week, maybe it's time to get Robbie a uniform.

Cougars Blast Opponents

In Wood Bat Tourney

In what is a bit unusual for a wood bat tournament, the Cougars scored 42 runs and blasted seven home runs to blow past the field in their annual Wooden Bat Classic.

In game one, the Cougars used the long ball four times as Will Crain went deep twice and Zac Cain and Tanner Bushue each deposited one over the outfield boards.

Shea Burton got the win in relief of Lance Schneider who started and pitched the first scoreless inning.

In game two on Saturday morning, the Cougars used the long ball again as they drilled Varna-Midland 11-0 in five innings.

Bushue got the Cougars on the board in the second when he smoked one out to right to make it 2-0.

In the third, Luke Smith launched a 2-run shot to right and Burton followed that up four batters later with a grand slam to left.

Starter Aaron Robb got the win by pitching four scoreless innings and Crain set down the side in the fifth to close things out.

In the championship game, the Cougars took advantage of some sloppy defensive play by the North Clay defense and eventually cruised to a 11-1 victory.

Zac Cain led the offensive charge with a pair of singles and 3 RBI's while Crain collected two safeties and scored three runs.

Lance Schneider started and went the distance to pick-up his third win of the year allowing 1 run on 8 hits, no walks, and 8 strikeouts.

The Cougars are back in action on Monday when the host the Vandalia Vandals.
