Cougars Split Four Games,
Remain Above .500
Since the Cougars swept all three games in their own Wooden Bat Tournament, they have found the
win column only four times in their last twelve games.
With injuries to key players and the untimely loss of two others, it has taken some time for the
Cougars to re-group, but a pair of wins this week along with two very competitive losses may have them back on track at the
right time of the year.
On Monday, the Cougars exploded for twenty runs on twenty three hits as they blasted the
hapless Mulberry Grove Aces 20-2.
Shea Burton (2-0) got the win and four hitters (Will Crain, Zac Cain, Lance Schneider, and Aaron Robb) collected
three hits apiece to lead the offense.
On Tuesday, Stew-Stras and their hard-throwing right-hander Phil Weatherall came calling and even though the
Cougars battled him tooth-and-nail all game long, they still came up on the short end of the 4-2 loss.
Heath Sigrist (0-2) gave another gutty performance on the hill allowing all 4 runs on 7 hits, 4 walks, and
3 strikeouts, but it wasn't quite enough.
Robb drove home both of the Cougar runs with a two-run single in the 2nd.
On Wednesday, the Cougars got revenge for last Saturday's 11-1 loss at Salem by pummeling the Wildcats 13-5
at Lions Field.
Lance Schneider picked-up his fifth win of the season by going the distance allowing all 5 runs on 5 hits,
4 walks, and 9 strikeouts.
Offensively, the Cougars banged out 16 hits, three of them by way of the long ball, and were led by Will Crain's
single, two doubles, and 2 RBI's.
The home runs came courtesy of Zac Cain and Aaron Robb as each belted solo shots in the 2nd inning.
The other one came from Schneider when he blasted one over the boards in the 5th for a two-run shot.
On Thursday, the Cougars traveled to Newton and dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to the Eagles.
Robb (3-3) pitched well, but absorbed the loss allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, 4 walks, and 8 strikeouts.
Although the Cougars only mustered one run, they had several sharply hit balls that were right at the
Eagle defense.
Sigrist paced the offense with a single and a double while Crain chipped in with an RBI single.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday when they travel to Carmi for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM.
