Cougars Sweep At Carmi

The Cougars made the long trip to Carmi on Saturday and after five hours of a baseball, they found themselves on the winning end of a pair of games by scores of 11-9 and 28-12.

With offensive numbers like these, it's apparant the Cougars brought along their hitting shoes as they torched the Bulldog pitching staff for 35 hits. Eight of those found their way over the outfield fences while five others went for extra bases.

In game one, five players had two or more hits and Lance Schneider and Aaron Robb each homered in the two-run victory.

Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the third, sophmore starter Ian King was lifted in favor of Shea Burton. He retired the final batter of the inning and when the Cougars scored six times in their next at-bat and grabbed a lead they would never relinquish, he was declared the winner.

More good news came in the form of Tanner Bushue. After sitting out three weeks with an injured knee, he returned to the mound in relief of Burton in the fourth and although he wasn't quite his usual self, he did pitch the final four innings to record a save.

In game two, the Cougars exploded for 15 runs their first two at-bats and by games end had crossed the plate 28 times for the highest run total of the season.

Heath Sigrist was the story of this game as he went 5 for 5 with two doubles, a 3-run homer, a grand slam homer, and totaled 9 RBI's. He also notched his first victory on the mound as he pitched the first three innings before being relieved by Will Crain in the fourth.

Besides Sigrist's two homers, four other Cougars went yard as Robb and Schneider connected again along with Isaac Grapperhaus and Zac Cain.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when the travel to Odin to battle the Eagles at 4:30 PM.
