Cougars Defeat Woodlawn
To Win Regional

With Mother Nature again playing havoc during the week, the Cougars were forced to play back-to-back games on Saturday to complete the schedule of games in their own post-season regional.

But things all fell into place as they rocked Sandoval 11-0 in the first game and knocked off Woodlawn 7-2 in the championship contest to claim the crown.

Against Sandoval, the Cougar offense exploded for six home runs and on the mound, Aaron Robb and Heath Sigrist combined to no-hit the Blackhawks.

The home run barrage was led by Sigrist as he clouted two long balls while Will Crain, Zac Cain, Shea Burton, and Lance Schneider all went deep as well.

Robb started and pitched the first three innings allowing no runs on no hits, no walks, and 4 strikeouts. Sigrist finished things up by throwing two scoreless innings of his own, striking out 4 and walking 1.

In the championship game, starting pitcher Lance Schneider pitched six shutout innings and gave the Cougars their first lead with a two-run homer in the fourth.

From the mound, he allowed no runs on 3 hits, no walks, and 8 strikeouts.

Offensively, the Cougars were led by Zac Cain's two singles and a bases-clearing double by Justin Armstrong in the fifth.

The Cougars now advance to their own South Central Sectional next week and play on Wednesday at 4:30 against the winner of the Dieterich and Noble regional championship game played at Bridgeport on Monday.
