Cougars Claim MTC
Conference Championship
The Cougars capped off their final week of the season by winning three out of four games and by doing so,
wrapped up the top spot in MTC conference standings.
On Tuesday, they traveled to Odin where they hammered the Eagles 16-2 to ensure them of at least a share of
the conference crown.
Three pitchers shared mound duties on the day as Ryan Gesell logged the first two innings followed by Ian
King and Derek Harmeier. King got credit for the win with his two innings of work.
Cole Armstrong (4 hits) and Tanner Bushue (3 hits) led the way offensively.
On Wednesday, the Cougars stumbled to a 9-4 loss to the visiting Effingham St. Anthony Bulldogs.
Ryan Gesell took the loss allowing the first five runs and the defense committed four errors along with several
mental errors.
Offensively, Cole Armstrong and Tyler Gillett led the way with two hits apiece.
On Thursday, a well pitched and well played game wasn't decided until the sixth inning when the Cougars plated
four runs to break a 1-1 deadlock to squeak by Beecher City 5-1.
Starter Derek Harmeier got a no-decision as he scattered nine hits over 5 1/3 innings before being relieved
by Tanner Bushue with the score tied at one.
Bushue picked-up the win when the Cougars scored in the sixth and Ian King notched a save by pitching
a scoreless seventh.
Cole Arstrong and Kyle Monical each scored a run and banged out two hits to lead the offense.
On Friday, the Cougars made the trip to Noble and behind the dominant pitching of Tanner Bushue, throttled
the Wildcats to the tune of 11-0.
With the win, they ran their league record to a perfect 10-0 claiming the outright conference championship
all to themselves.
Bushue came within a hit batsman in the first inning of throwing a perfect game as he allowed no runs on no
hits, no walks, and 19 strikeouts.
Bushue also led the offense with a pair of hits, one a two-run homer in the first. Cole Armstrong and Ian
King helped the cause with RBI singles and Justing Armstrong and Isaac Grapprhaus contributed with a two-bagger each.
