The Cougars used a combination of solid
pitching and timely hitting to take a pair of Midland Trail Conference games to start the new fall season.
On Monday, Derek Harmeier pitched a complete game victory allowing all
5 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits, 1 walk, and 10 strikeouts in a 10-5 win at Woodlawn.
The offense exploded for 9 second-inning runs to take the early lead. Highlights
of the uprising was a 2-run double off the bat of Tyler Gillett and 3-run homer from Ian King.
But the Cougars couldn't reach the scoreboard again until the 7th when Ryan
Gesell dialed deep and took one over the fence in left to close out the scoring.
On Tuesday, Gesell started and pitched a complete game of his own as the
Cougars romped past Clay City 12-2 in five innings. He allowed 2 runs, on 2 hits, 7 walks, and 12 strikeouts.
King came up big for the offense again as he laced an RBI double and a pair
of run-scoring singles to lead the way. Dylan Sill had a big night as well as he stroked 2 singles, drove in 2 runs, and scored
3 times.
The Cougars are back in action again on Wednesday when they travel to Patoka
to battle the Warriors at 4:30 PM.
