Although the Cougars struggled defensively
and with the bats, they still managed to pull off wins against Dieterich and Beecher City to up their record to 6-1 for the
season.
On Tuesday, Derek Harmeier tossed another complete game to run his record to
2-0 and Tyler Gillett cranked out a pair of two-run doubles to lead the Cougars to a 6-4 victory over the Dieterich Movin'
Maroons.
Harmeier allowed 4 runs (1 earned), scattering 8 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts
to pick up the win.
The offense managed just six hits, but took advantage of four Maroon errors
to put their six runs on the board.
Gillett's RBI doubles came in the first and fifth innings and Kyle
Monical contributed a pair of safties and scored two runs to lead the way.
On Wednesday, the Cougars escaped another lackluster performance when they
scored 1 run in the sixth and 2 in the seventh to slip past the Beecher City Eagles 4-3.
Ryan Gesell started and pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on
6 hits, 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts, but Ian King picked up the win in relief when he shut out the Eagles the rest
of the way.
Again, the offense didn't get much done as they only found the hit column 4
times, but they capitalized on 2 errors and and 2 walks late in the game to put the decisive runs on the board.
Cole Armstrong led the way with a pair of hits and 1 RBI and Gillett reached
safely on his third double in two days.
The Cougars return to action on Thursday when they travel to Brownstown to
battle the Bombers at 4:15 PM.
