Although the Cougar offense has struggled
at times in recent games, they woke up in a big way in a pair of short-game victories over St. Elmo and Sandoval.
On Thursday, the Cougars banged out ten hits and rode the pitching arm of Ian
King as they rocked the St. Elmo Eagles 13-2 in a non-conference game at St. Elmo.
Tyler Gillet launched a pair of homers with four RBI's and Kyle Monical laced
two singles and a double with three RBI's to lead the offense.
King ran his record to 4-1 as he pitched all five innings allowing 2 unearned
runs on 1 hit, 3 walks, and 10 strikeouts.
On Friday, the Cougars traveled to Sandoval and the result was nearly the same
as they came away with a 5-inning, 12-2 pasting of the Blackhawks to run their MTC record to 6-2.
Gillett had another big day with a pair of singles, a double, and 1 RBI while
Dylan Sill stroked a trio of 1-run doubles and Shane Donoho contributed a double and a triple with 3 RBI to lead the offensive
charge.
Gillett stayed unbeaten from the mound (3-0) by pitching all five innings
allowing 2 unearned runs on 1 hit, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday when the travel to Effingham St.
Anthony to take on the Bulldogs at 4:30 PM.
