Cougars Advance to Title
Game With Lackluster
Win Over Cisne

When a team strands 15 baserunners, committs 6 errors in the field, and makes numerous mental mistakes running the bases, it's usually a sure fire recipe for disaster.

But in the case of the Cougars and their game against Cisne in the semifinal round of the MTC Tournament on Friday night, they overcame those odds and slipped by the host Lions 5-4 to earn a berth in Monday's championship contest against North Clay.

The victory marks the 21st consecutive year the Cougars have advanced to the title game and gives them an opportunity to win it for the 11th straight time.

Despite the overall poor performance in this one, there were a few bright spots. Tyler Gillett started and pitched six strong innings to get the win as he allowed all four runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, 4 walks, and 6 strikeouts.

He also drove in the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh with a long home run to left and plated two other runs with a run-scoring double in the first and a bases loaded walk in the fourth.

Derek Harmeier did his best Treavor Hoffman performance when entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and set down three in a row to earn the save.

Kyle Monical helped the offense by driving in two runs on a run-scoring single and a bases loaded grounder to short.

On Monday, the Cougars try to win it all again when they battle the North Clay Cardinals at Cisne at 7:00 PM.
